Ommo Technologies Raises Series A for Robot Spatial Positioning

Ommo Technologies has completed a Series A financing round in the tens of millions of US dollars. Hong Kong VMS Group co-led the round with a well known fund, KJ Capital participated, and DS Capital acted as long term exclusive financial advisor.
The company, headquartered in Carrollton, Texas, works on a question that sounds basic until you try to answer it: how does a robot know where its own hand is? Vision tells it what it can see and encoders report joint angles, but when fingers occlude one another, a gripper holds something soft, or a tool enters a narrow cavity, those methods start to fail.
Ommo builds what founder Zheng Minjie describes as a small indoor positioning system inside a physical space. A host unit contains a continuously rotating permanent magnet that generates a characteristic magnetic field. Miniature sensors read that field wherever they sit, and the algorithm resolves full six degree of freedom position and attitude data from it. The system reaches sub millimeter accuracy within its specified working range, and the smallest sensor measures roughly 0.8 mm, narrower than a grain of rice.
The choice of permanent magnets rather than the coils used in traditional electromagnetic tracking is the point of difference. Coil based systems can see through obstructions but need bulky hardware and are vulnerable to interference from metal and nearby electronics. Ommo uses low frequency quasi static magnetic signals to weaken eddy current effects from conductive metals, and encodes the field with enough complexity that local distortion can be identified and corrected in real time without losing the core signal.
The technology went to market first in surgical navigation, on the reasoning that an operating room is tightly controlled and has almost no tolerance for error. Ommo operates a quality system meeting ISO 13485 standards and has run multi year technical validation with leading surgical navigation companies. Its customer base now covers more than 100 medical device enterprises in China and abroad, with several supporting navigation devices in the regulatory declaration stage across neurosurgery, orthopedics and sports medicine, and stomatology.
Embodied intelligence is the market Ommo is chasing next. Robotics customers have been running into precision limits during fine manipulation, where small pose errors turn into slipped or failed grasps once contact is made. There is also a data problem: the industry has very little large scale 3D physical operation data, because video, optical motion capture, inertial units and force sensors all struggle to produce continuous, absolute, high accuracy trajectories through occlusion and sustained contact. Ommo has built a data collection glove using medical grade permanent magnet sensors to capture how human hands actually perform tasks.
The company plans to put the new capital into technical iteration of the positioning system and into building out mass production, with deployments targeted across embodied intelligence, advanced manufacturing and medical settings. Its team spans magnetic field modeling, spatial computation, sensors, precision mechanics, electronics, production testing and quality management, with members who have worked at Apple, Intel, Riot Games, TTI and Samsung.
