Hera, a New York based healthcare company, has raised $27 million in Series A funding to grow its senior care coordination service. The round was led by Bain Capital Ventures, with continued support from Accel and IA Ventures, along with angel investors that include the chief financial officer of Mount Sinai.
The company is trying to build a new profession in healthcare, one focused on supporting families who are caring for aging relatives at home. It pairs human expertise with AI powered care coordination. Hera’s care experts, called Heroes, coordinate care, advocate for families, and help them tap into healthcare and community resources.
Behind the human side sits an AI platform named Juno. It captures the kind of tacit, fragmented, and hyper-local healthcare knowledge that has never been written down in structured form, things like which cardiologist has openings next week, how to get additional home care approved through Medicaid, or how to make use of eligible community resources.
Since launching a year ago, Hera says it has brought ongoing care coordination to more than 1,000 families, with 95 percent retention.
The funding will go toward continued development of the platform and geographic expansion into California, Florida, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. The company aims to be live in more than 25 states by the end of the year.
