Smack Technologies has raised $61 million in Series B financing, taking total funding past $90 million. Costanoa Ventures and First In led the round.
Point72 Ventures, Geodesic Capital, Nomi Capital, Felicis, Sapphire Ventures, Scribble Ventures, Fortitude Ventures, Bloomberg Beta and Palumni VC also participated.
The company builds domain specific AI models for national security, including its Omega and Alpha platforms, meant to support campaign level decision making and autonomy across command levels and at the tactical edge. The specific problem it works on is speeding up combat planning for units operating under heavily jammed communications, where the usual reachback to a distant server is not available.
Timing helped. The round follows a March decision by the Defense Department to declare Anthropic a supply chain risk, which sent military branches looking to diversify their AI vendors and moved defense startups like Smack up the priority list.
Andy Markoff serves as chief executive. The company operates from Austin, and its Texas base sits within a growing cluster of defense technology firms.
The money funds proprietary hardware to run the tactical AI platform at the edge, wider model coverage across domains and warfighting functions, and recruiting in AI research and engineering.
