Reservoir has closed an $8 million Seed round led by Asymmetric Capital Partners, with Founder Collective and MCJ participating. Founder Collective had led the company’s pre seed.
The product is a heat pump water heater that thinks ahead. Reservoir’s units predict household demand, store energy when it makes sense to, and flag leaks before they become a flooded basement. The company says each one saves a customer roughly $800 a year compared with a standard electric tank.
That last piece matters beyond the utility bill. A fleet of water heaters that can shift when they draw power is a grid asset, and Reservoir’s predictive grid balancing software is what turns individual appliances into something a utility might care about.
Luke Winston-Almanzar, previously chief business officer at the 3D printing company Formlabs, co founded Reservoir with Gabriel Parisi-Amon and Jake Felser. The company launched in 2024 and began installing units in late 2025.
The plan for the money is concrete. Reservoir wants to grow its installed base from roughly 100 devices to 1,000 by the end of next year, scale direct residential installation across the Boston metro area, move into new metropolitan markets outside New England, and train apprentices to work around the trade labor shortage that constrains every company doing physical installs.
Home electrification has been a difficult category to sell in Massachusetts and elsewhere, largely because the products ask homeowners to care about something they have never thought about. A lower bill and no leaks is an easier pitch.
