Nous Research, an open source AI lab based in New York, is raising at least $75 million in a Series B led by Robot Ventures at a $1.5 billion valuation. USV is participating alongside other investors, and the raise has drawn strong investor interest.

Jeffrey Quesnelle, Karan Malhotra, Ryan Teknium and Shivani Mitra founded the company in 2023. It is best known for Hermes, its agent product.

Hermes shipped with built in skills covering web search, coding and image understanding, and was designed to learn from how it is used and build new skills on its own. Developer interest has been considerable, with roughly 214,000 stars and close to 40,000 forks on GitHub. Users can run it on a desktop or a virtual private server, or take a cloud hosted version priced between $20 and $200 a month.

The $1.5 billion figure is a sharp step up from the company’s $50 million Series A, led by Paradigm just over a year ago at a $1 billion valuation. New capital goes toward expanding Hermes products and the business model around them.
