Checkboard, the London company that recently rebranded its B2B business to Kord, has closed a £6.4 million Series A round. Guinness Ventures led the financing, with Beringea, SFC Capital and a group of angel investors joining, lifting total capital raised to £9 million. The firm keeps the Checkboard name for its consumer-facing app and remains authorised by the UK Financial Conduct Authority.

Kord brings identity verification, anti-money laundering screening and client money management into a single system for law firms and estate agents handling high-value property transactions, closing the gap between client identity and client money where much fraud risk sits. The company reports revenue growing from roughly £600,000 to nearly £4 million over the past year, a sevenfold jump, across more than 100 paying customers.

Most of the new money, about 60 percent, will go to sales and marketing, with 20 percent toward technology development and the rest funding senior hires that include a chief financial officer and a chief marketing officer.
