Valence AI, a Los Angeles, California company building emotional intelligence infrastructure, has raised $5 million in a Seed round led by Differential Ventures. The round, announced on June 24, 2026, included participation from Difference Partners, Willowtree Ventures, Change Paradox Ventures, and SRI International.

The company builds software that detects emotional states from live speech in real time. Founded by Chloe Duckworth and Shannon Brownlee, Valence positions its technology as an AI layer that voice systems can use to read how a speaker is feeling as they talk.

The raise coincided with two newly issued U.S. patents covering the company’s audio signal processing pipeline for classifying emotional states from live speech in real time. Its Pulse Emotion model reports 92 percent accuracy on internal benchmarks, and company materials cite 30 percent reductions in call handle time across named customer deployments at Harte Hanks, CustomerHD, and BPO Centers.

Valence AI plans to use the capital to expand the language coverage of its Pulse product, build deeper integrations across voice AI orchestration platforms, and make new hires across engineering, go-to-market, and customer success.
