Valarian, a sovereign infrastructure company headquartered in London, England, has raised $50 million in a Series A round led by New Enterprise Associates. The deal brings total funding to $70 million and marks NEA’s first defence and dual use investment in Europe.
Lightbank, XTX Ventures, Litquidity Ventures and Sequel joined the round, along with angel investors Gokul Rajaram and Nikesh Arora.
Max Buchan and Josh McLaughlin founded the company, which builds a control layer for high consequence operations and AI driven systems. Its software, ACRA, works as a sealed operating room around AI workloads and sensitive applications. Government departments and businesses can keep running on Amazon or Microsoft cloud infrastructure while Valarian’s layer governs exactly what data leaves, who touches it and when.
The company sells to both enterprise and defence customers through two deployment tracks, Valarian Enterprise and Valarian Defence. The round has drawn support from the highest levels of the UK government, a reflection of work that sits at the meeting point of economic competitiveness and national security.
