iGii has announced £22.7 million in new funding to commercialize Gii, its proprietary carbon nanomaterial. The package includes a £11.7 million Series B led by the Scottish National Investment Bank with backing from PXN Ventures and Archangels, plus £11 million from Scottish Enterprise.

The company is based in Stirling, in the UK. Jean-Christophe Granier is CEO.

Founded in 2016, iGii developed Gii as a three-dimensional porous carbon nanomaterial that is grown rather than mined or compounded, using a process that runs at room temperature and scales to industrial volumes.

The company says the same material integrates with a wide range of biological, chemical, and physical systems, giving manufacturers one high-performance platform across many applications. Products already in play include multi-analyte sensing, microheaters, and flexible printed battery electrodes.

The market argument sits in supply chains. Access to critical materials such as platinum and gold is constrained by concentrated supply and geopolitical uncertainty, which has sharpened debate around material sovereignty. The UK Government’s industrial strategy puts advanced materials at the center of rebuilding domestic manufacturing capability, raising the value of materials that deliver more performance while reducing reliance on constrained supply.

Manufacturing capacity is already in place for large-scale production runs across multiple industries. Over the next 12 to 24 months iGii plans to move from years of research into execution, deepening engagements with large manufacturers and converting existing relationships into long-term supply agreements.

The investment also funds team growth. iGii currently employs 55 people, including 17 PhDs, and expects to reach nearly 70 by the end of the year.
