Oratomic, a quantum computing startup based in South Pasadena, California, has raised $300 million in a Series A round co-led by ARCH Venture Partners, Khosla Ventures and Spark Capital. Bezos Expeditions, Index Ventures, General Catalyst, Lowercarbon Capital, Bain Capital Ventures and Formation 8 also took part, along with quantum researchers David and Scott Aaronson.
Led by chief executive Dolev Bluvstein, Oratomic develops the hardware and software layers needed to build a commercially scalable, fault-tolerant quantum computer, together with quantum error-correction systems. The company came out of stealth in March with research arguing that practical fault-tolerant machines could need far fewer qubits than many in the field had assumed.
The funding will pay for high-performance quantum hardware fabrication, deep algorithmic research across fault-tolerant logical qubit designs, and a larger physics and hardware engineering team.
