Nix Biosensors has closed a $10 million Series A to expand its hydration monitoring technology and push its personalized hydration data into consumer health platforms. Total funding now stands at $17 million.

The company is based in Norwell. Investors in the round include Shorewind Capital, Great Oaks Venture Capital, and White Road Investments, the family office of CLIF Bar founders Gary Erickson and Kit Crawford. Anne Wojcicki and Len Blavatnik also participated, as did owners of the St. Louis Blues, Boston Celtics, Baltimore Orioles, Boston Legacy FC, and Texas Rangers.

The Massachusetts company plans to spend the money on product development, data science, and market expansion. The centerpiece is Nix Health, an algorithmic hydration intelligence product built to plug into existing consumer health platforms without asking users to wear a Nix sweat sensor.

That marks a shift in the business model. Nix built its name on sweat-sensing hardware used across sports, military, occupational, and consumer settings to measure how people lose fluids and electrolytes during different activities and conditions. The field data from those deployments has become a dataset the company now uses to generate personalized hydration recommendations. Instead of collecting fresh sweat measurements from every consumer, Nix Health licenses the algorithms directly to health and wellness platforms people already use, which opens a software and data licensing line alongside the sensor business.

The core technology measures fluid and electrolyte loss in real time and gives individualized readings rather than generic hydration guidelines. Deployments with athletes, military personnel, and workers have let the company gather data across a wide range of environments.

The Series A will also fund research into other biomarkers that might be readable through sweat. Nix has named lactate, cortisol, glucose, Vitamin D, testosterone, and estrogen as areas it intends to explore, which could eventually take the platform beyond hydration into broader non-invasive health measurement. No timeline has been given for commercial products based on those biomarkers.

In the near term, Nix Health is the main growth bet. Licensing to third-party consumer health platforms separates the data and algorithms from the physical sensor, which reduces the need to win each consumer through a hardware purchase. It also fits the wider growth of platforms that aggregate activity, sleep, and other physiological metrics, where hydration could become one more input for people managing exercise, heat exposure, or physically demanding work. Rising temperatures add to the relevance for occupational and athletic settings.

Founder and CEO Meridith Cass started Nix after graduating from Harvard Business School and working in venture capital.
