Metal has raised $4.5 million in a Seed round led by a16z Speedrun, the accelerator arm of Andreessen Horowitz, together with Y Combinator. Pioneer Fund, Rebel Fund, Gaingels, Indus Valley Capital, Team Ignite Ventures and Phaze Ventures also invested.
The company is based in Pakistan and was founded by Usman Gul, a co-founder of Airlift.
Metal sells AI software to the people on the other side of a term sheet. Its platform helps startup founders manage fundraising and venture capital workflows, and the company describes it as an AI operating system that provides intelligence and automation to startups during funding rounds.
The investor list is its own signal. a16z Speedrun accepts fewer than 0.4 percent of applicants, and having both it and Y Combinator lead the same round is not common.
Gul built and scaled Airlift before this, so the workflow problem Metal is solving is one its founder has worked through directly.
