Hypercubic has raised $5.3 million in a Seed round led by CIV. Y Combinator, Afore Capital, Pioneer Fund and Multimodal Investors joined, along with angels including Opendoor chief executive Kaz Nejatian and Venky Harinarayan, a former Amazon Marketplace engineer and co-founder of Walmart Labs.

The company puts AI agents to work on a problem most engineers avoid. Decades old COBOL codebases still run large parts of banking, insurance and government, and nobody wants to touch them. Hypercubic’s agents read those systems, document what they find, then rewrite them, automating a meaningful share of what mainframe modernization projects normally require in human hours.

Sai Gurrapu and Aayush Narik built the company. Both are former Apple AIML engineers, and they are aiming their platform at maintenance and modernization infrastructure for mainframe and COBOL systems.

Hypercubic operates from San Francisco. The California company came through Y Combinator, which also backed this round.
