Cirrus Therapeutics has expanded its seed round to $14.7 million to date, adding the Intellectual Property Company of Cedars-Sinai to a syndicate that already included ClavystBio, Polaris Partners and SEEDS, the investment arm of SG Growth Capital.
The company first announced an $11 million seed financing led by ClavystBio, with Polaris Partners and SEEDS participating.
Cirrus works in ocular immunology and is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Its lead program is a preclinical adeno-associated virus ocular gene therapy designed to restore IRAK-M, an immune regulator expressed in retinal cells.
The target condition is dry age related macular degeneration. Rather than slowing the disease, the biotech is aiming at an underlying cause, with the goal of reversing it and preventing progression to geographic atrophy. That is a more ambitious framing than most programs in the area take, and the expanded syndicate suggests investors are willing to fund the attempt.
