Breedr has closed a $27 million Series B led by Partech, with Latitude and Outsiders Fund joining. Total funding now sits at $46.6 million.
The company was founded in the UK in 2018 by Ian Wheal and moved its headquarters to Austin, Texas, in 2022 to build out its North American business. It now operates across the United States, the UK and Australia.
The product starts from a familiar sight on any ranch: the notebook in a farmer’s top pocket. Breedr moves those paper records into an app, giving individual cattle a digital record that follows them from birth to sale, covering weight, genetic history, medical treatments and other attributes. It runs on web and mobile and is hardware agnostic, so producers keep whatever equipment they already own.
Recording the data is only half of it. The platform also runs a marketplace where farmers sell livestock, using that same record to time a sale at the point of maximum value, and the data then travels down the supply chain rather than stopping at the ranch gate. Breedr takes a fee on each transaction. More than two million cattle are on the platform, and close to $500 million of livestock purchases have been facilitated so far this year.
The timing is bound up with a supply problem. The U.S. cattle herd began 2026 at its lowest level since 1951, this year’s calf crop is projected to be the smallest on record according to USDA figures, and the average price of a pound of ground beef reached $6.885 in August, up 9.16% over the year, per Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis data.
Rebuilding a herd takes years, since animals grow at the pace they grow. The company’s argument is that better decisions and better genetics let ranchers finish cattle faster, which improves both profitability and supply over time.
The new capital funds the global rollout, including Australia and New Zealand, a larger engineering team, registration of more ranchers, and advanced features such as genomic data tracking.
