Arkenstone Defense, a company based in Menlo Park, California, has come out of stealth with $35 million in seed funding to help commercial technology companies sell to the U.S. government. J2 Ventures led the round, joined by Susa Ventures, Granite Hill Capital Partners and Artis Ventures.

Led by co-founders Peter Dixon and William Treseder, the company combines workforce operations, payroll, personnel security, contracting support, compliance and accreditation into one managed platform. It aims to carry a business from its first federal opportunity through long-term government programs, and keeps additional offices in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Burr Ridge, Illinois.

Arkenstone will use the funding to build out the infrastructure that lets commercial firms meet the full operating burden of federal work, from cleared workforce and payroll through audit and accreditation.
