StandardX has raised £10 million in Seed round funding to build an accelerator-based isotope refinery. Vsquared Ventures and East X Ventures led the round, with firstminute capital, the UK Innovation and Science Seed Fund, Brevan Howard Macro Venture and Geometry also taking part.
The deeptech company is based in London, in the UK. Nuclear engineers Richard Pearson, the CEO, and Ross Allen, the CTO, founded it in 2025. Both have experience scaling startups, and they set out to create a more reliable and resilient European supply chain for critical rare materials.
Isotopes are used across healthcare, energy and other industries. Global production, though, depends on a small number of ageing facilities and machines with limited output. StandardX’s proprietary accelerator system is meant to replace isotope-specific infrastructure with one platform that can make a broader range of isotopes from a standard industrial footprint. It is also designed for distributed production, so manufacturing can sit closer to where the materials are needed.
The company is starting with isotopes used in cancer diagnosis and treatment, including materials needed for targeted alpha therapies. Its technology is intended to support both the isotopes hospitals use today and those that drug developers need for new treatments, some of which are not yet commercially available at scale.
StandardX also plans to use the same platform for other industries. That includes tritium, a fuel for fusion energy, and the company has signed agreements with fusion developers to manufacture tritium for them.
The seed money will go toward growing the team, securing StandardX’s first industrial site in London and advancing the design and construction of its first refinery system. Pilot isotope production and distribution to a medical partner is planned for 2027, with industrial-scale production to follow from 2029.
