TetraGen Robotics has closed an oversubscribed C$1.8 million Seed round led by StepChange Capital of Calgary, with Vancouver’s Emend Vision Fund participating. Jim Richardson of the Winnipeg firm James Richardson & Sons also put money in. The round closed in August 2026.

The Winnipeg company builds autonomous welding systems, taking the chassis of a conventional welding robot and pairing it with proprietary AI software and machine vision. The result is meant to handle work that traditional robots cannot, namely jobs where every part is slightly different and a fixed program will not do.

That matters in a trade with a persistent labour shortage. Skilled welders are hard to find across North America, and shops have been turning to industrial automation less by preference than by necessity.

Matt Khoshdarregi founded TetraGen in 2022. He previously founded the Intelligent Digital Manufacturing Lab at the University of Manitoba, which is where much of the underlying work started.

The money goes toward product development, growing the team and early commercial deployments.

Suppliers and vendors selling into newly funded manufacturing and hardware companies can source verified C-suite contacts from the B2B Sales Leads List.
