Firecrawl has raised a $75 million Series B led by Smash Capital. Altos Ventures, Nexus Venture Partners, Y Combinator, Freestyle and Offline Ventures also participated.

The company is based in San Francisco. Alongside the funding, it launched Alexandria, which brings official data providers, custom connectors and Firecrawl’s own indexes together with the live web so an AI agent has a single way to find a source, see what it contains and pull from it.

A big share of the new money will go toward paying people and organizations for their knowledge. Firecrawl already pays some official data providers, most notably Wikimedia Enterprise, and millions of requests for Wikipedia data run through the platform each month. The company plans to open a self-service system so individuals, content creators and organizations can earn when AI agents use what they know.

Alexandria includes a Research Index with tens of millions of scientific paper abstracts, a Developer Index covering tens of millions of primary sources across documentation, READMEs, issues and merged pull requests, and a Government Index of laws, regulations and ordinances. Across 845 tasks using the same model and prompts, with blind AI judging, agents using Alexandria scored 21% higher on answer quality than agents relying on built-in web tools.

The team previously built Mendable, an AI chat product for documentation, and learned that getting clean, reliable information from the web was the hardest part of the stack. Firecrawl was built to handle crawling, rendering, parsing and cleanup from a single URL, and more than 1.5 million users now build with it. Caleb Peffer is CEO.

Cloud, data and developer service companies can get verified founder contacts at newly funded software startups each week through Software Development Leads.
