RapidPulse, a medical technology company based in Miami, Florida, has raised $48 million in an oversubscribed Series B. Medtronic, TechWald Next S.p.A. and S3 Ventures co-led the financing.

New investors SBI Investment Company Ltd. and Florida Opportunity Fund joined, alongside existing backers Santé Ventures, Syntheon, Hatteras Venture Partners and Epidarex Capital.

The company is developing a mechanical thrombectomy system for acute ischemic stroke, the most common form of stroke, which works by pulling blood clots out of blocked arteries in the brain. Its pulsed aspiration approach is meant to improve how well the device grips and removes clots compared with conventional aspiration.

RapidPulse will put the funding toward completing its ongoing Investigational Device Exemption clinical study, known as TURBO, and expanding its proprietary aspiration technology platform. Pending clinical data, the company is preparing to seek US Food and Drug Administration approval for the system.
