Greyparrot, a London company applying AI to waste and recycling, has raised $27 million (£20 million) in a Series B round. The financing brings the company’s total funding to $60 million.

The round was led by technology investor Omar Mir. It follows a milestone for Greyparrot, whose platform has now detected more than one trillion waste objects.

The company’s AI camera systems, called Analyzers, sit above sorting belts in recycling facilities across more than 20 countries. They turn each item passing below into data, identifying its material, product and brand in real time.

Greyparrot plans to put about 30 percent of the money into product and AI development, including a stronger object detection system. It also aims to scale brand recognition through its Deepnest platform, build return on investment benchmarking for recyclers and brands, move toward a multimodal AI approach and deliver more regulatory data tied to extended producer responsibility rules.
