TypeSafe AI has left stealth with $40 million in Seed funding led by DCVC. The San Francisco lab describes itself as building composable, machine-native intelligence.

Diogo Almeida founded the company with Erik Gafni and Sasha Sheng. Almeida is a former OpenAI researcher and a co-inventor of RLHF and ChatGPT, which makes his choice of research direction here worth noting.

His argument is that if AI is going to change how work gets done, most intelligence should eventually run quietly inside systems rather than through conversational assistants. The company’s position is that today’s frontier models, capable as they are in conversation, bring unpredictability that production software cannot absorb, in the form of hallucinations and inconsistent methods.

Its first model is called Jev, named after Jevons Paradox. The design target is frontier-level intelligence at under 100 milliseconds of latency, which the company positions as up to 100 times faster and cheaper than comparable frontier models. Jev can process multiple outputs in parallel and returns calibrated confidence scores meant to help developers decide when software can act on its own.

James Hardiman, general partner at DCVC, said the founders’ technical background put them in a position to rethink how models are constructed for software integration, and described the composable approach as a foundation for a new generation of applications.

Jev is currently available through a waitlisted early access program for selected developers. The California company has not said when broader access will open.

Developer tools companies and infrastructure vendors selling into engineering teams can get verified contacts at newly funded software startups every week through B2B SaaS Leads.
