Baselayer has closed a $20 million Series A co led by Koro Capital and M13, the Santa Monica firm. The round lifts total funding for the New York company to roughly $47 million.

Baselayer works in a corner of fintech that rarely gets attention until something goes wrong. Its platform handles Know Your Business checks, the process by which a bank confirms a commercial customer is real and legitimate before money starts moving. The software replaces manual review with automated onboarding, risk assessment and continuous portfolio monitoring that watches for sanctions exposure, fraud signals and changes to a business entity over time.

The new capital is meant to improve that platform and push it deeper into three customer groups: banks, fintech companies and government agencies, all of which face the same problem of verifying businesses at volume without adding headcount.

Jonathan Awad, Timothy Hyde and William Slessman founded Baselayer in 2023. The company has moved quickly since, going from a stealth stage startup to a $47 million balance sheet in about three years.

Agencies and vendors selling into financial institutions can reach verified contacts at newly funded companies in this market through FinTech Lead Generation.
