Trace Biosciences, a Beaverton, Oregon biotech developing imaging technology that makes nerves visible during surgery, has drawn a strategic investment from Axogen as part of its Series A round. The investment was announced on July 29, 2026, with additional investors expected to join.
The company’s lead technology, Nerve Trace, uses near infrared fluorescence imaging to give surgeons a direct, real time view of nerves, including ones that are normally hidden by surrounding tissue. Trace is building a new class of small molecule imaging agents designed to make nerves both visible and measurable in clinical settings.
Trace Biosciences was founded by a group with backgrounds in imaging, chemistry and translational medicine. The investment from Axogen is aimed at advancing clinical development of the Nerve Trace technology.
