Axle has raised $17.5 million in a Series A round led by Base10 Partners. Y Combinator and Gradient both put more money in, and Stage 2 Capital joined alongside a group of industry angels. The round is roughly four times what the company had raised in total before it, following a $4 million seed led by Gradient Ventures.
Axle calls itself an AI native insurance clearinghouse. In practice that means automating the verification work that sits between a carrier and everyone who needs to confirm a policy is active, which historically meant phone calls, PDFs and waiting.
The scale numbers are the argument. Axle now clears more than $100 billion in coverage annually for over 4,000 clients, a list that includes Rocket Mortgage, Avis, Experian and Sonic Automotive. The company says it has sped up insurance verification workflows by 20 times and helped customers recover hundreds of millions in losses.
Three Emory University graduates founded the company in Atlanta in 2022, having met as undergraduates and later worked together at Deloitte Digital and Cox Automotive. Axle went through Y Combinator’s Summer 2022 batch and has since added a New York hub alongside its Georgia base, with a team of about a dozen people.
