Town, a company based in San Francisco, California that builds a personalized AI assistant, has raised a $55 million Series A. The round was led by Andreessen Horowitz, with Forerunner Ventures joining and continued support from First Round Capital, Alt Capital, and Conviction. It was announced on June 3, 2026.

Town’s assistant is designed to learn how people work across the tools they already use. The company was founded in late 2024 by Jean-Denis Greze, the former chief technology officer of fintech company Plaid, and Tony Vincent, a former director of applied AI at Google.

The company started with a different focus before pivoting. Its first product was an AI-driven tax-and-compliance service for small businesses, built to give them the kind of tax advantages large corporations enjoy, and it launched with an $18 million seed round in early 2025. By mid-2026, the framing had widened into a general personal assistant, with tax becoming one capability among many.

The funding will go toward Town’s goal of making AI genuinely useful for everyone, not just people willing to become AI experts. The company’s bet is that the assistant should learn the user and act on their behalf, rather than wait for the user to learn it.
