Stone & Skillet, the maker of artisan English muffins, has closed a $5 million Series A round led by BFG Partners as it sets out to expand its distribution footprint.

The company traces its origins to 2013, when its founders developed a recipe in their Boston apartment, shaping the dough on a granite stone countertop and griddling it on a cast-iron skillet. That hands-on beginning is the source of the brand’s name and its focus on a more crafted take on a familiar breakfast staple.

With the new funding, Stone & Skillet plans to grow where its products are sold, extending its reach beyond its current footprint.
