Alitheon, an optical AI company based in Bellevue, Washington, has raised $8 million in a Series A1 round to widen the reach of its physical object identification technology across global supply chains.

The round was led by Emerald Technology Ventures, with eBay Ventures also joining in. The financing was announced on June 2, 2026. With this raise, Alitheon has now pulled in a little over $40 million in total funding since its founding.

At the center of the company is a product called FeaturePrint. It uses optical AI to create a unique digital fingerprint for any physical object, and it does so without barcodes, tags, stickers, or labels of any kind. The system reads the microscopic surface variations that every manufactured item naturally carries, using nothing more than a standard camera. Alitheon describes the approach as biometrics for things.

The technology is designed to work across a wide range of goods, from designer handbags to industrial gears to pharmaceutical packaging. FeaturePrint is backed by more than 55 issued patents, and Time magazine named it one of the 200 best inventions of 2023.

Alitheon employs 24 people. The company has also secured $1.5 million in federal contracts, including work tied to the Pentagon’s Nuclear Weapons Center.
