Polar, a San Francisco company building an AI browser that automates knowledge work, has raised $5.7 million in a seed round. Madrona led the financing, which was announced on July 29, 2026.

The round also drew angel backing from industry figures including former GitHub chief executive Thomas Dohmke and Modal founder Erik Bernhardsson. Polar was founded by Kevin Jiang, Vishaal Ram and Howard Zhong, a team with roots at MIT, Perplexity and leading quantitative funds.

Rather than stop at answering questions or summarizing tabs, Polar operates the web the way a person does, clicking, typing and moving through the sites where people already work. It takes on long, multi step tasks and runs them from start to finish, whether that takes a few minutes or several hours.

The product has grown largely by word of mouth across its first seven months, with users running more than 4.5 million actions through it across research, recruiting, sales, operations and marketing.
