Altis Labs, a Toronto company that describes itself as the AI endpoint company, has closed a US$25 million financing. OrbiMed and Qiming Venture Partners USA co-led the Series A. Innovation Endeavors, Benchstrength, Fusion Fund, Lumira Ventures through the Cancer Breakthrough Fund, and other investors also participated.
The Ontario company plans to extend its AI models to more cancer types, scale commercial deployment with global biopharmaceutical partners, and push AI endpoints toward becoming a standard measure in oncology trials.
The problem Altis is chasing is an old one in cancer drug development. Trials have long depended on imaging endpoints such as objective response rate, yet those measures give only a partial view of whether patients actually live longer. Developers still have to make go/no-go, trial design, and portfolio calls on those early readouts, with hundreds of millions of dollars in R&D and billions in commercial value riding on each decision. When conventional imaging endpoints miss the mark, a promising therapy can get shelved too early, or a weak one can advance and then fail in a late-stage trial.
Altis was built on the idea that AI models trained on survival outcomes from actual patients can pick up long-term clinical benefit that standard imaging endpoints overlook. Its flagship model, IPRO, produces survival predictions automatically from routine radiology scans, which lets drug developers spot treatment effects sooner and with more confidence.
The strongest evidence so far comes from Johnson & Johnson. In an independent post-hoc analysis of the Phase 3 MARIPOSA trial, presented at the 2026 World Conference on Lung Cancer, the Altis endpoint known as IPRO Response Rate detected a statistically significant treatment effect 11 months ahead of the primary PFS readout and 26 months ahead of the final overall survival readout. Objective response rate, by comparison, failed to predict the survival benefit.
IPRO was trained in partnership with leading cancer centers on what the company calls the industry’s largest multimodal oncology database, covering longitudinal imaging, molecular, clinical, and outcomes data across more than 500,000 patient years. Top 20 biopharma companies use the model to analyze data from Phase 1 through Phase 4 trials.
