Harell Data has launched with $15 million in Seed funding from Fuse, Cercano Management and others.
The company is trying to fix an incentive problem in AI assisted drug discovery. Today the groups that generate scientific data rarely share in the value that AI models create from it. Harell Data is building a business model where they do, connecting AI modelers to proprietary training sets so harder scientific problems become solvable.
In practice the company runs cloud based infrastructure for scientific discovery, letting researchers train and fine tune models on curated proprietary datasets.
Harlan Robins founded the business. He was the scientific founder of Adaptive Biotechnologies in Seattle. The team of 11 is split between Bellevue and Palo Alto, California, and includes chief technology officer Rakesh Nair, head of operations Saray Covey and head of sales Analise Polsky. The Bellevue office puts headquarters in Washington.
The name came from home. Robins asked his eight year old son Ellis for a suggestion, and Ellis combined Harlan and Ellis into Harell.
