Endeavor Optical Networks has come out of stealth with $10.75 million. General Catalyst and Andreessen Horowitz backed the seed round, with Main Object, XYZ and UpFront also taking part. The company was founded in May.

The idea is to move a share of intercontinental internet traffic off the seafloor and into orbit. EON plans an optical satellite network in medium Earth orbit to carry data between continents, positioned as an alternative to undersea cables, with laser links rated at 2.4 Tbps.

The build is deliberately small in satellite count. Around 20 spacecraft are planned, each providing a dedicated link between two continents, and the initial fleet is meant to give early customers 24 hour coverage. Content delivery networks, hyperscalers, telecom operators and AI labs are the intended buyers.

Charlie Horowitz, an early employee at Apex Space, is chief executive. Tyler Presser, previously at Advanced Space, is chief technology officer. The company is based in Culver City, California.
