Sofab Inks, a specialty materials company based in Louisville, Kentucky, has raised a $6 million seed round to advance its technology for perovskite solar. Cloudberry Ventures, a strategic investor, led the round, which the company announced on July 21, 2026.
Sofab Inks was spun out of the University of Louisville’s Conn Center for Renewable Energy, with support from the US Department of Energy. It focuses on high-performance electron transport layers and specialized inks that it says can move perovskite solar closer to mass-market production.
The company is pairing the raise with a manufacturing reliability milestone, which it frames as a step toward solving one of the main obstacles that has kept perovskite solar from wider adoption. Sofab Inks plans to use the capital to expand high-volume manufacturing, triple the size of its engineering team, and scale its technology toward specifications suited for one-by-two-meter commercial solar modules.
