Stainless Secures $25 Million in Series A Funding to Revolutionize AI-Driven SDK Generation
Stainless, an AI-powered platform that simplifies the process of creating and maintaining software development kits (SDKs), has secured USD 25 million in Series A funding. This significant investment was led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Sequoia, The General Partnership, Felicis, Zapier, MongoDB Ventures, and several angel investors, including former Stripe Inc. Chief Operating Officer Claire Johnson and Datadog Inc. President Amit Agarwal.
The funding will be utilized to expand Stainless’s New York-based team, which currently consists of 20 employees, and to accelerate the development of a comprehensive platform for API-related services. This platform leverages AI algorithms to automate the generation of SDKs from application programming interfaces (APIs), significantly reducing development time and effort.
Stainless’s innovative tool has already gained traction, with notable clients such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta. The company provides access to its SDK generator in several tiers, including a free version that allows users to publish a single SDK. For more extensive needs, companies can opt for paid plans ranging from USD 250 per month to USD 30,000 a year.
The company’s business model has shown promising results, with approximately USD 1 million in annual recurring revenue, making it nearly profitable. According to Rattray, the CEO of Stainless, the role of APIs is expected to become even more critical with the rising adoption of AI. APIs are essential components of the data pipelines that feed every AI application, and robust, well-designed APIs will be favored by AI agents to interact with various services and data sources, enabling them to execute complex workflows.
This funding round marks a significant milestone for Stainless, which had previously raised USD 3.5 million in a seed round in April. The additional capital will enable the company to further develop its platform and expand its team to meet the growing demand for efficient SDK generation.
Stainless’s AI-powered compiler is designed to automatically generate SDKs from APIs with minimal input from developers, making it a valuable tool for companies looking to streamline their development processes. The company’s vision is to create a comprehensive platform that addresses the full spectrum of API-related needs, positioning it as a leader in the rapidly evolving landscape of AI-driven software development.
With this latest funding round, Stainless is poised to make significant strides in the tech industry, leveraging its AI-powered platform to revolutionize the way companies create and maintain SDKs. The company’s commitment to innovation and efficiency is expected to have a lasting impact on the software development ecosystem.
