Ravee Optics, a startup based in Dayton, Ohio, has raised $6 million in a seed round to advance its meta-optics technology for satellite laser communications and prepare for an in-orbit demonstration planned for early 2028. BIG Global Investment JSC led the round, with participation from CincyTech Fund VI and the JobsOhio Growth Capital Fund.
Founded in 2024, Ravee Optics uses silicon wafer-based meta-optics in place of traditional multi-lens systems, which makes for smaller, lighter and potentially cheaper laser communication terminals suited to spacecraft such as CubeSats. The company has already earned early revenue from optical component sales.
The funding will help Ravee tackle the growing satellite bandwidth challenge as it moves toward its orbital demonstration.
