Hellbender has closed a $12.5 million seed funding round to expand its domestic manufacturing capabilities and grow its edge AI hardware portfolio. The round was co-led by Magarac Venture Partners and Veredas Partners, with participation from Mana Ventures, Gaingels, Sum VC, and the Active Angels Network.
Based in Pittsburgh, Hellbender builds physical AI infrastructure platforms that bring real-time perception, reasoning, and decision-making directly into edge environments. The company says the new capital will support the rollout of those platforms while helping it grow its product, growth, and hardware manufacturing teams to keep up with rising demand. Its technology stack is designed and manufactured in the United States, positioning Hellbender as a domestic source of AI hardware and computer vision infrastructure at a time of growing concern over global supply chain resiliency. According to the company, robotics firms are increasingly adopting its technology for advanced AI perception and edge computer vision.
Alongside the funding, Hellbender announced the commercialization of its AI hardware portfolio after years of building custom edge AI computer vision systems for robotics companies. The company describes the shift as moving from a dedicated engineering and manufacturing provider to a broader commercial platform company centered on physical AI infrastructure.
As part of that launch, Hellbender introduced three flagship products powered by Hailo AI accelerators and Raspberry Pi compute technology. The Hellbender Stereo Camera is an integrated edge AI platform offering depth perception, AI acceleration, and peripheral device control for systems operating in low-light and feature-poor settings. The Hellbender Vine Camera System is a distributed monitoring platform that supports up to 64 cameras across large physical environments, with uses spanning smart retail, inventory management, industrial monitoring, and assisted living. The Hellbender Tadpole Camera is a compact AI vision platform built for OEM integrations, insurtech deployments, advanced security systems, and embedded computer vision.
The company said pre-orders for the camera line will open in June 2026, and it plans to show the new products at Automate 2026 in Chicago from June 22 to June 25.
