Teal Health Secures $10M for At-Home Cervical Cancer Screening Device

Teal Health, a San Francisco-based women’s health company, has secured an additional $10 million in seed funding to support the launch of its innovative at-home cervical cancer screening device, the Teal Wand. This latest investment brings the company’s total funding to $23 million, further solidifying its mission to transform cervical cancer screenings and improve women’s health outcomes.

The funding round was led by Emerson Collective and Forerunner, with continued support from existing investors such as Serena Ventures, Metrodora, and new partner Labcorp. This investment marks a pivotal step for Teal Health, enabling the company to accelerate its product development and prepare for commercialization.

Teal Health’s primary goal is to create a more accessible and user-friendly cervical cancer screening experience for women. The traditional pap smear collection process has remained largely unchanged since its inception in the 1940s, leading to a significant gap in innovation and advancement in women’s health. The Teal Wand aims to address this by providing an at-home self-collect cervical cancer screening device that is currently under review by the FDA.

The company’s vision is to empower women to take control of their health with confidence and ease. With the Teal Wand, women will be able to request a home collection kit, which includes a telehealth visit and guidance on how to collect vaginal samples using the device. The samples will then be sealed and shipped to a Teal-approved lab for analysis.

Teal Health’s mission is deeply rooted in addressing the harsh realities faced by women and individuals with a cervix. Currently, 92 million women and people with a cervix are of screening age, but one in four do not regularly undergo screening due to limited access and discomfort with the invasive exam. The American Cancer Society has highlighted cervical cancer as one of the most common cancer deaths for women, emphasizing the importance of prevention and screening measures.

The company’s approach aligns with evidence-based guidelines and addresses barriers such as convenience and comfort. A recent nationwide clinical study conducted by Teal Health found that 94% of women across all demographics preferred at-home screening over traditional in-clinic screenings with a speculum and brush. This underscores the demand for more user-friendly and convenient options, which the Teal Wand is poised to fulfill.

Teal Health’s FDA submission for the at-home cervical cancer screening device is currently under review, marking a critical step toward delivering a first-of-its-kind solution that prioritizes women’s preferences and needs. The company’s commitment to eliminating cervical cancer and breaking down barriers to essential healthcare is further emphasized by its donation of $1 to the American Cancer Society for every woman and person with a cervix who pledges to screen during Cervical Cancer Awareness Month.

With strong support from dedicated investors and a growing community of early advocates, Teal Health is on track to reshape cervical cancer screening in the U.S., ensuring that women across the country have access to the care they deserve—on their own terms. The company’s innovative approach and commitment to improving women’s health outcomes position it as a leader in the women’s health industry.
