Twentyeight Health Secures $10M to Expand Women’s Healthcare Access
Twentyeight Health, a digital-first women’s healthcare platform, has secured $10 million in Series A funding led by Seae Ventures. This investment brings the company’s total funding to $25 million and includes participation from Impact America Fund, The Social Entrepreneurs’ Fund, RH Capital, Impact Engine, Gratitude Railroad, and Townhall Ventures.
The company, which operates in 43 U.S. states, aims to bridge the gap in accessing reproductive health services, particularly for underserved communities. According to Bruno Van Tuykom, CEO and Co-Founder of Twentyeight Health, 45% of American women seeking reproductive health services face significant challenges, especially the 19 million living in contraceptive and maternity care deserts where options are few.
Twentyeight Health’s platform offers a comprehensive range of services, including birth control options, abortion pills, emergency contraception, herpes treatments, pregnancy tests, condoms, menstrual products, and prenatal vitamins. The company’s strong network of payer partnerships allows it to often provide care with no copay and no prescription costs, making it an accessible option for low-income individuals. Half of Twentyeight Health’s users earn less than $20,000 annually, and the platform accepts almost every commercial and Medicaid plan.
The company has seen significant growth, surpassing 100,000 users in October 2024, bolstered by a partnership with Converge in Mississippi and patient asset acquisitions from SimpleHealth and a portion of The Pill Club. Following the November 5th presidential election, Twentyeight Health reported a 52% increase in overall conversion, a 10% increase in website traffic, and doubled emergency contraception sales.
Arianne Kidder, Partner at Seae Ventures, highlighted the resilience and relevance of Twentyeight Health’s mission, stating that raising $10 million in the current economic climate is a significant achievement. Kidder noted that with Medicaid spending $200 billion annually on women’s health for reproductive age women, there is real potential in the company’s platform and approach.
Twentyeight Health plans to use the new funding to expand its operations and development efforts, including more enterprise partnerships and fee-for-service Medicaid contracts. The company aims to continue investing in its user experience and expanding its reach nationwide to deliver a real solution to a growing problem.
The company’s commitment to creating a future where all women have access to essential healthcare services is underscored by its recent partnerships with leading Medicaid insurers, including Aetna, AmeriHealth, and Molina. These partnerships will help Twentyeight Health achieve its goal of making reproductive and sexual healthcare affordable and accessible to every woman, regardless of geography, income, race, age, or coverage status.
Twentyeight Health’s impact is evident in its diverse user base, with three in five users considered underserved, two in five not seeing a Primary Care Provider outside the platform, and nearly three in five identifying as people of color. Before joining Twentyeight Health, 65% of users did not have access to birth control, highlighting the critical need for accessible reproductive health services.
The company’s approach to tackling an urgent problem in a smart, scalable, and quality-driven way has earned it recognition as a leader in digital-first women’s healthcare. Twentyeight Health has been named in the 2024 Digital Health 100 (DH100), Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies, Forbes Next 1000, Top 50 in Digital Health by Rock Health, Health 100, and the Inc. Female Founders 100.
